Coming in 2026.
In this chapter, participants will head to the font of the slave trade and learn about its history and context. You will learn about the tree of forgetfulness, the door of no return and the economic practices fueled by colonialism that created the slave trade and the way humans were dehumanized.
We will explore the ramifications, both historical and contemporary, of this history and story and wrestle with the church’s role in sustaining such practices as well as in the way it challenged slavery and the slave trade.
We will also explore how the church can enact an alternative, more liberative narrative that confronts this painful history of slavery and its long-reaching tentacles in search of being, or becoming, a beloved community today.
