The River Run Network Coordinator will be part of the Watershed Management Group (WMG) team working on the River Run Network (RRN) program, to restore Tucson’s heritage of flowing creeks and rivers. They will assist with community engagement, field projects, and community science initiatives with the goal of engaging the public in river restoration and environmental health efforts. The RRN intern will help build partnerships and collaborate with Latinx, Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) communities as well as students and youth groups.
The Coordinator will assist with several major initiatives through the River Run Network, including: 1) Flow365 community science, 2) binational beaver survey effort along the San Pedro River, 3) Arundo donax invasive species removal, and 4) Santa Cruz Watershed Collaborative biannual forums and field trips. They will support other RRN events including restoration workshops, clean-ups, and creek walks and work with the WMG team to do outreach to target BIPOC and families to build interest in volunteering and participating in projects.
Educational requirements: College degree in a degree program related to environmental science, environmental education, or a related field.
Other requirements: The volunteer is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The volunteer must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Typical schedule: Monday – Friday, generally between 9 a.m.-5 p.m., some evening and weekend hours for field work and community events.
