Purpose: The San Luis Valley is home to three of the four poorest counties in Colorado. As a result, economic, housing, and food insecurity are significant issues throughout the region. La Puente Home Inc. provides a wide array of related services that utilize a cohort of full-time volunteers to assist staff through 1-2 year volunteer terms. These opportunities, some of which are noted below, vary depending on agency needs, funding, and the filling of positions through La Puente Home’s own Americorps program from year-to-year. Alamosa MVS has helped La Puente fill varied volunteer needs over the years, that match well with the interests of an MVS applicant. Depending on the position, this sometimes involves a cooperative arrangement of co-enrollment of an MVS volunteer in La Puente Home’s Americorps cohort.
