Position description: CASAS is uniquely prepared to receive people seeking a sabbatical or time of personal growth. Studying Spanish can be an integral part of this; however, CASAS is also open to working with individuals and groups in designing what fits best for each person. This can also include service opportunities that match academic interests, trips and other activities.
Interactions with people in the churches and partner organizations can help participants develop a broader world view, a deeper understanding of justice and peace issues in a global context, and new insights for leadership and collaboration.
CASAS has many partners involved in a wide range of ministries and services in various departments of Guatemala. They are also very willing to hear the interests and vision of the applicant and seek unique possibilities.
Term: Generally, up to one year. Short stays are usually on campus, while longer stays can be with host families or in apartments.
Language: CASAS provides a strong Spanish language program; they are prepared to work with both beginners and advanced Spanish students.
Position-specific qualifications: Interest in experiencing and learning from other cultures. Relational skills to live with a host family. Willingness to work respectfully with a partner organization.
