Seminario Anabautista Latinoamericano (SEMILLA) is a seminary which provides biblical and theological
education for thirteen Anabaptist/Mennonite conferences in Central America and
Mexico, and coordinates the Comunidad de Instituciones Teológicas
Anabautistas (CITA) for online education in the region.
The mission of Seminario Anabautista Latinoamericano (SEMILLA) is to "prepare men and women to follow Jesus Christ faithfully and, thus, to live out the reign of God with justice and peace today."
The seminary is commonly known as SEMILLA, which means seed in Spanish. In Luke 8:11 Jesus talks about the seed as "the Word of God" and in Matthew 13:38 Jesus refers to the children of God as "the good seed."
SEMILLA was initiated by the Central American Anabaptist conferences in the early 1980s as they recognized the value of their Anabaptist spiritual roots in their own context. They were inspired by the experiences of the early Anabaptists who also developed church communities and lived their faith in a context of social and economic injustice.
Central America Study and Service (CASAS) is a program of SEMILLA. CASAS provides opportunities for Spanish language learning, cultural understanding and internships. Casa Emaús, a guest house on the property, offers overnight lodging and meeting spaces which helps to fund SEMILLA.
