Japan Mennonite Christian Church Conference is a conference of 19 Mennonite congregations on the northern island of Hokkaido.
The JMCCC has nineteen churches in Hokkaido. Five churches are located in Kushiro and farther east, seven are centered around the city of Obihiro, and seven are in Sapporo, Hokkaido’s capital city, and nearby cities. Total membership is 473. The Mennonite Education and Research Center provides lay-training courses for the churches, and the Peace Missions Center directs mission activities and various peace and social justice ministries.
The Mennonite Board of Missions (MBM) sent mission workers to Japan in 1949. The first Hokkaido churches were established in Kushiro and Obihiro in 1951. The first church conference was held in 1953. Early evangelism and church planting concentrated in the rural areas of eastern Hokkaido, but as church members moved to Sapporo, church planting began there by 1960. Some churches have full-time pastors, while others have bi-vocational pastors or lay leadership. The conference partners with Network by providing financial support for mission worker, Mary Beyler.
