ELKHART, Ind., (Mennonite Mission Network) – Mennonite Mission Network has committed $10,000 to help Ukrainian students.
The global mission agency has ongoing contact with its partners Odesa Theological Seminary in Korsuntsi, Ukraine, and LCC International University, in Klaipėda, Lithuania, about 705 miles northwest of Ukraine. Because of Russia’s military invasion, churches in Ukraine have been housing people who have fled their homes and many students have been involved in evacuations. Of LCC’s 800 students, 176 are from Ukraine. A campus ministries team and trauma counselors are available to students as they seek to cope.
Funds will be divided to both schools.
"We hold the people of Ukraine in our hearts, joining hands with our partners in the region to respond swiftly with support, resources, communications, and prayers," said Mike Sherrill, executive director. "May the strength and grace of the Lord be a sustaining companion hour by hour and hasten the restoration of peace in Ukraine."
"In this time of immense suffering for Ukrainians everywhere, we stand in awe of our partners who rise with strength and resilience to minister to people in need," said Sharon Brugger Norton, regional co-administrator for Africa and Europe. "The Spirit of the Lord is stronger than the spirit of death and destruction and together we are witnesses to that truth."
Odesa Theological Seminary is a Baptist theological institution that helps Evangelical churches in Ukraine and beyond to equip believers in the church.
With students from more than 60 countries, LCC International University is a Christian liberal arts institution that emphasizes servant leadership.
