As the inauguration of a new U.S. president is in less than 10 hours, I am lying in bed just wondering … what will I come home to in just a few months? At the moment, I have just finished my second week at Happy Holy Kids kindergarten. I am loving the teachers and children and just the atmosphere and community here. This school is a Christian-centered community that praises and thanks God for everything that is provided, every single day. The children are taught how to sing worship songs, but not just sing the lyrics – these 3- to 6-year-olds are actually closing their eyes, lifting their hands, and truly feeling the love of Jesus.
So now that I have witnessed this proclaiming love from children who are barely coming into awareness of the world, all that I can do is pray and worship God all the more. I pray that God blesses our president with wisdom, love and compassion. I do not happen to agree with the new president on many of his ideas, beliefs and values. However, I think that it’s just like in Peter’s vision in Acts 10:9-36 when Peter finally realized why the sheet with the animals was brought down from heaven. Acts 10:34-36: "Then Peter began to speak: ‘I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism, but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right. You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.’"
Although some may not fear God and do what is right, we should be the ones in that place. We should be the ones who fear God and do what is right, which is to show love and compassion in a peaceful manner to not just some people, but EVERYONE! Our God came down from heaven to show us how to live in that way. I may not know what I will come back to, but I sure do know that if I do my part in showing peace, love and compassion toward all people of flesh, skin and bones, I will be doing "what is right" in God’s eyes.
