Mission workers from Franconia Mennonite Conference arrived in Mexico City in 1958, where they began and nurtured congregations that later formed Conferencia de Iglesias Evangélicas Anabautistas Menonitas de México (CIEAMM).
Motivated by a vision for reaching others and forming more Anabaptist congregations in the largest city in the world, Mexican churches, together with partners from the region, the United States and Canada, carried out a special 10-year project in the 1990s. CUMA (Comité Unido de Misión Anabautista) was formed as a mission structure within Mexico.
Both Mission Network predecessor agencies were part of CAMM, a coalition of Anabaptist mission agencies in the United States and Canada to support CUMA. Some congregations resulting from this effort have joined CIEAMM. In October 2009, CIEAMM celebrated their 50th anniversary. Mission Network has maintained a fraternal relationship, while not carrying specific administrative responsibilities.
Due to the shared border between the United States and Mexico, several area conferences of Mennonite Church USA have missional relationships with churches in northern Mexico that at times involve Mission Network.
In 1992, CIEAMM was one of the Mexican conferences that formed Iglesia Anabautista Menonita Unida de México (IAMUM) as the legal religious association of six Mexican conferences.
