Tanzanian Mennonites began evangelical outreach in Kenya in the 1940s, first in teams, and then through fellowship formation. Eastern Mennonite Missions workers Clyde and Alta Shenk were invited in 1967, after Kenya gained independence, to expand these ministries, networking with scattered Tanzanian Mennonites who were moving into western regions.
