The oil spill in the Gulf is a stark reminder of another disaster only five years ago when Hurricane Katrina hit. Wayne Ford, a fisherman from Louisiana, shares his story of living through Katrina on the Shaping Families radio program this week.
Not only was Ford’s means to his livelihood destroyed (boat and equipment), but his house as well. When his insurance refused to pay for the damages, all hope seemed futile until Mennonite Disaster Service called and said, “Mr. Ford, you’ve been picked to receive a house.”
Four new stations have recently begun airing Shaping Families, or switched from one station to another by sponsor request, bringing the total to 15; the Shaping Families program was begun January 4, 2010:
- WTOW, Washington, No. Car. airs the program every morning at 6:15 a.m. Listener response has been encouraging enough that the program manager re-runs programs in order to broadcast it on a daily basis.
- WCYC-LP, London, Ohio, 8:30 a.m. on Sundays.
- WKLM, Millersburg, Ohio, 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, sponsored by the Spring Haven Counseling Center, Rittman, Ohio.
- WMRF, Lewistown, Pa., 9 a.m. Sundays, sponsored by Allensville, Barrville, Locust Grove and Maple Grove Mennonite churches.
