Mennonite Heritage Village

The Mennonite Heritage Village exists to preserve and exhibit, for present and future generations, the experience and the story of the Russian Mennonites and their contributions to Manitoba through exhibits, artifacts in a permanent gallery, and an outdoor pioneer village. There is a wide range of tasks available for volunteers: cataloguing artifacts, computer data entry, heritage building restoration, gardening, groundskeeping, costumed interpretation of heritage buildings and culture, antique vehicle and equipment care and repair and demonstrations of pioneer skills. Some of the pioneer skills are: blacksmithing, threshing, flour milling, saw milling, spinning, quilting, milk separation, butter churning and bread baking in an outdoor clay oven. Volunteer opportunities are usually available from April through October, with July and August being the busiest months. Lodging: There are several RV parks/campgrounds and motels serving the community. For groups of 10 or more there is modestly priced dormitory space available in a nearby school in July and August. Mennonite Heritage Village will assist in locating suitable lodging arrangements if necessary. Meals are the responsibility of volunteers. However, the onsite restaurant offers volunteers a 50% discount on meals. Hours are 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM. www.mhv.ca.
