Volunteers are needed in food services, clerical services, library, facilities and ground maintenance, construction, and in the Arboretum. Other opportunities are available, including assignments in academic areas, depending on qualifications. Some opportunities are seasonal.
The Arboretum has a number of task and projects available. Short-term tasks that can be done anytime include trimming rosebushes, janitorial duties indoors, office assistant/front desk greeter, weeding, mowing, mulching, debris/litter clean up, planting in the greenhouse, and poster distribution.
Long-term projects include repainting interior walls of buildings, tree trimming, garden renovation, pruning evergreens, hardscaping, weather-coating bridges/benches, and invasive species eradication.
There are two special events for which help is needed for 2 weeks at a time. Preparation for the plant sale preparation (end of August through first week of September, second and third weeks of April) and stringing Christmas lights for the Luminary Walk (second week of November through end of month).
Lodging options include an RV park two miles from campus, and a guesthouse with private room and bath is generally available; kitchen privileges are included. Depending on work assignment, one meal a day in the college cafeteria is provided at no cost, generally at noon.
