Have peace and mission become the “Jacob” and “Esau” of church practice?
A tension exists in the church between peace/justice adn mission/evangelism. It is a real tension, but an unneccessary one. Like estranged siblings, peace and mission need to sit down together and work at reconciliation, as hard as that may seem. For too long they have been at each other’s throats.
Neither has taken the time nor effort to understand the mind of the other. Both are afraid of what the other might do to them. Yet both are in desperate need of new understandings. Unless the two are reconciled, the church will continue to find itself divided into separate camps – those committed to mission and evangelism, and those committed to peace and justice.
What hope is there for “the twain” to meet?
