Every organization has a purpose; an answer to the deceptively simple question, "Why?" At Mennonite Mission Network, that "why?" is to lead, mobilize and equip the church to participate in holistic witness to Jesus Christ — across the street, all through the marketplaces and around the world.

In this Q&A series, Mission Network asks staff members to think about the role they play in the agency, and how they see their daily work joining into what God is doing around the world.

In this installment, Amber Henrich reflects on her role as Human Resources Specialist.

What brought you to your role with Mennonite Mission Network?

I was drawn to Mennonite Mission Network because it aligned with both my professional background in HR and my personal values of community, peace and service. In my HR roles, I’ve always valued the opportunity to support people and organizations in meaningful ways, and Mission Network offered the perfect chance to merge my skills in human resources with my desire to contribute to something larger—helping facilitate the church’s mission by ensuring the right people, processes and systems are in place to support those serving globally.

What is your favorite part of your role with Mission Network?

One of my favorite parts of my role is the opportunity to work alongside others who share a passion for service and faith. I also enjoy being part of a team that is supportive and mission-driven, as we work together toward a common goal. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see the impact of our work, knowing that we are making a difference in both individual lives and broader communities.

How has your perspective on Mission Network changed over your time with the agency?

When I first joined, I had a general sense of Mission Network’s impact, but over time, I’ve developed a much deeper appreciation for how multifaceted the organization’s work really is. I’ve come to see how Mission Network doesn’t just support global outreach, but also invests in long-term relationships and community development. This has expanded my understanding of what it means to serve and support others through ministry.

How do you view your role with Mission Network fitting into God’s mission for the church?

I see my role as helping to create and sustain the structures that allow others to fulfill their calling in God’s mission. By supporting the administrative side of things, I feel I’m contributing to the church’s work by making sure that the people on the ground—those engaged directly in ministry—have what they need to thrive. It’s rewarding to know that the work I do helps others serve effectively.

What is something that has surprised you about your role with Mission Network?

One thing that surprised me is the level of connection between the administrative and mission sides of the work. I initially thought my role would be mostly behind the scenes, but I’ve found that what I do has a direct impact on the people we serve and support. It’s been surprising—and fulfilling—to see how even small details in my day-to-day work can ripple outward and make a difference in the lives of those involved in ministry.
