Service Opportunities: Camp Friedenswald is located on 300 acres next to Shavehead Lake in southern Michigan, is affilated with the Mennonite Camping Association and has a rich history as a church camp. Friedenswald, which means peaceful wood, seeks to provide people of all ages the opportunity to gain a better understanding and love for God, self, others and nature. The mission is accomplished through program camps, outdoor education, guest group rentals, and special events. The camp utilizes volunteers year round. Volunteer opportunities include food service, operating a dishwasher, housekeeping, maintenance and/or office work.

Lodging: Two apartments are available (each with full kitchen, bathroom w/ tub, and sleeping quarters for 2 to 4). Laundry facilities are on-site. In addition to the apartments, sleeping rooms with attached bathroom are available as well. RV hook-ups may be used during the warmer months, and have full electrical and sewer hook-up. Shower facilities are available. All meals served at the camp would be available to volunteers.

Service Opportunities: Individuals or couples are needed for general services, including kitchen, laundry, cleaning and maintenance. Year round service opportunities are available.

Lodging: Room and board is provided and RV space is available.


Three Rivers, Michigan
SOOP The Hermitage

Service Opportunities: The Hermitage is a retreat center committed to creating an environment of attentiveness to God and a place of welcoming hospitality to individuals and small groups. Daily and seasonal responsibilities include: greeting guests, meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, yard work, landscaping, building maintenance, forestry tasks, gardening, and canning and freezing produce. Each day begins with morning prayers. Meals are taken in community. Retreat days and spiritual direction are offered as desired.

Lodging: Room and board is provided. RV space is also an option (electric hook-up only). People may volunteer for several weeks, a month, or just one week. The Hermitage is located 34 miles from Goshen/Elkhart.
